Purple Squirrel.

I used to have a friend back in primary school who got an A+ on her coloring homework where she chose purple to color a picture of a squirrel. Our teacher was clapping happily looking at that purple squirrel but everyone in that class was quiet.

I smirked. I despised that purple-colored squirrel because I thought it didn’t make sense at all.

Why purple? Why not brown, black or at least white? (she should just leave the paper blank to give a white color to that squirrel because it would look much better than purple.haha). It’s not that I hated purple, I just needed a logic reason why the teacher was so happy to see a squirrel in purple because it’s not supposed to be in purple, you know. Even a ‘purple squirrel’ is not purple. I digressed.

And for mine, I chose brown and I did color the picture with some shadings of black, much better than she did. Whoahaha.

Really, it wasn’t I who said it, but all the other classmates did. And I got B+, you know. It was so frustrating. Actually I was just too curious to know the logic reason why it is acceptable to pick purple for a squirrel so that next time I would feel free to pick green to color a picture of a cat. ( Green Cat. Yay! ).

So I kept asking myself and kept wondering about it. Sadly, I didn’t get any answer.

But now, being a student in creative field has made me understand that most typical ideations are the first things that should be rejected if you want to be creative and highlighted. So it’s like, choosing brown for a squirrel is so typical, while choosing weird color like purple for a squirrel can be considered as creative. Perhaps.

Anyway it also makes me believe that even if there’s something in this life that doesn’t look believable, logical or sensible to the majorities, it’s not impossible that it can still give sense to others and work perfectly for the special minorities who can actually see things from different perspectives and learn how to appreciate them.

Life is full of wonders for people who always see things from different angles.I guess.

But I still don’t like that purple squirrel. It was just. Weird.

. . .

Anyhoo, I just got to know that there is actually a purple squirrel found at a school somewhere in UK last year (2008) and everyone thought that it was an absolute mystery and doubted whether the animal has fallen into purple paint, had a run-in with some purple dye, had chewed a purple catridge or whether there is another explanation.
(Go google yourself).

I got to spare a thought for the more brightly decorated mammals next time. :P

bukan ke nampak lagi real if it brownish in colour? maybe your teacher back then, adalah seorang artis yang berfikiran kreatif dan mahukan kelainan. but getting B+, not bad at all laa.. hihihi.
